Our Society's objects are to promote knowledge and understanding of model engineering by building and operating steam and other types of powered models; by invention and experimentation; by tool making; by encouraging Junior members to become engineers; by maintaining links with fellow model engineers in the UK and abroad; by furthering wider interest in our hobby amongst the local community who visit the Society’s Abbeydale Miniature Railway; and by supporting local charities.
Subscriptions are £50 full membership and £15 junior per annum. Associate membership is £2 per annum - this is a special category - essential for insurance purposes - for people who wish to assist occasionally in the running of the Society without needing the benefits of full membership.
Application for membership is open to any person interested in supporting the above objects of the society. Full membership is for persons 18 years and over. Junior membership is for persons aged between 12 and 18 years. Under 16’s will need a parent or guardian to also apply for either associate or full membership in order to accompany the junior member whilst they are on the Society’s premises. The Committee reserves the right to withdraw Membership from any member who does not abide by the Society’s Articles of Association and Rules.
Anyone wishing to join is welcome to attend at the Society’s premises to meet the Membership Secretary and obtain an application form and to meet other members. Membership is on a trial basis for six months. During this time, the applicant will find two members to support their application. The Society’s committee will then consider whether to confirm the applicant’s membership. In the rare event that the membership application is declined, the subscription paid will be refunded in full.
